| 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful  Cool idea - bad design, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: High Sierra 23" Transport Travel Pack (Apparel) i took this to europe for a few weeks, i really liked the idea of two bags zipping into one unit. over all a good bag, and i really like that the larger of the two pieces has a shoulder strap (like a suitcase) and compartment to hide the shoulder straps. the biggest problem, and reason i would not use it for backpacking again, is it is not balanced.when full and zipped into one bag, it is top-heavy, and sticks out way too far behind you. basically, it pulls you backwards, so you must lean forward a bit to feel balanced with your center of gravity. i read a review that mentioned this issue, disregarded it, and now feel it was seriously under-emphasized. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful  A good bag and a good value, By Scott (New York, NY) - See all my reviews This review is from: High Sierra 23" Transport Travel Pack (Sports) I purchased this bag for a two-week trip around Greece and found it to be great for my needs. It's relatively roomy, yet the main pack just meets carry-on requirements and the small day-pack easily fits under an airplane seat. It's pretty comfortable to wear, with nicely padded straps on the main pack and good straps on the detachable day-pack. The shoulder strap is convenient as well--the main bag can be carried as a shoulder bag or with the padded suitcase handle if desired. The day-pack can also be clipped onto the front of the bag, which can be good both for security and to distribute weight more evenly.The bag was also pretty durable, although one of the metal clips on the shoulder strap came off when the strap got caught in an airport x-ray machine (not sure this is really the bag's fault though). Overall I am quite satisfied, especially for the price. Just keep in mind this is a travel bag--it's great for carrying on your back from hotel to hotel... Depending on the airline, the main bag is small enough that, when separated from the day pack, it can be used as a carry-on. However, again it depends on the airline and aircraft. (Some airlines only allow 1 carry-on bag, and some airlines have smaller size allowances for carry-on luggage.) I bought a small bag so I could carry it on, but I quickly found myself checking it anyway because of the liquid restrictions on carry-on luggage. Also, even though it is small it's cumbersome to have to keep it with you in the airport. It's just easier to give it to the airlines and let them deal with it.If you intend on putting locks on the zippers note that you can do so but the zipper handles are made of fabric and not metal, so anyone with a pair of scissors could cut it and get in your bag.
